What does it cost to make a hearing loss claim?

Our service is completely FREE; there are no costs involved even if medical examinations are required, nor will any costs be taken from your hearing loss compensation - 100% of the compensation awarded is guaranteed.

What is Tinnitus?

Tinnitus is the perception of noise in the ear or ringing in the ears.

How can you tell if where you work is too loud?

The following signs should be a red flag that the noise around you is too loud:

  • If you have to shout to be heard above the noise.
  • If you can't understand someone who is speaking to you from less than 2 feet away.
  • If a person standing near you can hear sounds from your stereo headset while it is on your head.

What amount of hearing loss compensation can I expect?

At Imperium Law, the average amount of compensation we would expect you to receive in any hearing loss claim would be around £4,000. We would ensure that you kept every penny of the compensation we are able to obtain on your behalf. Hearing loss compensation can include the costs of high quality digital hearing aids, and household amplification devices for your telephone and doorbell.

What is Noise Induced Hearing Loss (NIHL)?

We are subjected to sounds at safe levels every day that do not affect our hearing, however, sensitive structures in our ear can be damaged when we are exposed to loud or moderately loud noise over a long period of time. Continuous exposure to loud noise can destroy cells and nerves in the inner ear, which can result in permanent damage.

The length of exposure and loudness of a sound (measured in decibels (dB), are related, for example, the louder the sound the shorter the exposure can be before damage occurs.

What are the symptoms of Noise Induced Hearing Loss?

The symptoms of NIHL will increase gradually when a person is exposed to loud noise over a long period of time. A person may experience distorted or muffled hearing and have difficulty in understanding what people are saying, especially when there is competing background noise. Listening to the television or radio at a higher volume than in the past is another indication that hearing may have been damaged.

What sounds cause Noise Induced Hearing Loss?

NIHL can be caused by exposure to loud sounds over a period of time or by a one-time exposure to an intense sound. Workers at special risk of NIHL are usually those in heavy, productive industry, such as mining, steel, paper, building, heavy plant and manufacture. Typically power tools omit around 100dB, however, exposure to 85dB for 8 hours on a daily basis can begin to damage a person’s hearing over time.

What are the effects of Noise Induced Hearing Loss?

Harmful noise causes damage to the hair cells as well as the auditory nerve. Hair cells are small sensory cells that convert sound energy into electric signals that travel to the brain. Once damaged, hair cells cannot grow back.

The effect from impulse sound can be instantaneous and can result in immediate hearing loss that can be permanent due to the structures of the inner ear being severely damaged. This kind of hearing loss may be accompanied by tinnitus; symptoms of which are a buzzing, ringing or roaring in the ears or head which may subside over time. If the hearing recovers it is known as a temporary threshold shift. The temporary threshold shift usually disappears 16 to 48 hours after exposure.

The damage that occurs over many years of continuous exposure damages the structure of hair cells and results in hearing loss and tinnitus although the process occurs more gradually than for impulse noise.
