Half a £million in motorbike accident compensation for injured rider.
A 29 year old kennel assistant Mr J from Radstock in Somerset, was knocked from his bike in 2010 by a van. He was dragged underneath the van for several metres which left him with life altering injuries.
Circumstances of the case.
The young man was approaching a bend on his motorbike, when the driver of a Western Power Distribution van pulled out from a side road without looking and crashed into him.
The van driver, who did not realise he had hit something, reversed pinning the bike riding under his wheel.
Mr J was rushed to the local hospital, and within 24 hours his left leg was paralysed.
An operation to relieve pressure on his sciatic nerve revealed extensive damage and scarring. Several years later some feeling has returned to his leg but he remains paralysed from the knee down.
Due to the accident his mobility is severely restricted and he now has to rely on strong mediation to control the pain. His injuries mean he can’t carry out manual work.
A claim was made against Western Power Distribution. The company accepted 100% liability and recently a settlement of £500,000 was agreed for his pain suffering and loss of future earnings.
