If you or a loved one has suffered at the hands of a negligent GP, you have the right to highlight this failing and seek compensation.
Our compensation team has won payouts for many patients who have been failed by the NHS. This includes claims made against GPs who have caused patients to suffer because of their failure to spot an illness.
Claims against GPs are rising and whilst the majority of patients receive an acceptable level of care, there are those cases where patients have been failed.
For someone who has received poor care it can be life threatening. For example missing signs of cancer can be devastating as any delay in treatment can change the prognosis and eventual outcome.
Bowel cancer misdiagnosis.
According to a recent survey carried out by Bowel Cancer UK, 42% of women under 50 years of age who were diagnosed as suffering from bowel cancer had to visit their GP up to 5 times before their symptoms were spotted. Cancer treatment becomes far more difficult after diagnosis has been delayed which has sadly led to lives being needlessly lost .
In the case of bowel cancer 2000 younger sufferers are diagnosed each year, but it is too often the case that the cancer of younger suffers is delayed because some GPs attribute their symptoms to other illnesses.
Case example delayed cancer diagnosis:
This was the case for Ms H who was pregnant when she became ill, her symptoms of stomach pains and blood in her stool were wrongly put down to her pregnancy. Ms H went into premature labour at 27 weeks giving birth to a stillborn girl. After the delivery of her baby it took a further 4 months for her cancer to be diagnosed as it was thought she was too young.
By the time she was correctly diagnosed her cancer had advanced to stage to 3 to 4 and her tumour had grown to 6cm. Delayed diagnosis meant she had to undergo a 7 hour operation to remove the cancer and had to endure 6 months of radio and chemotherapy.
If you believe negligent GP care has compromised your health and you have suffered as a result, call us to discuss making a claim.
Compensation payouts.
The amount of compensation you could receive is dependent on the health problems caused by the poor treatment received, the additional care you then need to improve your health and its cost to you.
To make a successful claim it is necessary to prove that the care received was negligent and directly responsible for your health issues.
