Five UK police forces face paying millions in compensation to officers forced to retire after 30 years service.

Claims on behalf of 250 police officers from North and South Wales, Devon and Cornwall, Nottinghamshire and West Midlands were taken to a Central London Employment Tribunal. This was a landmark case of officers collectively bringing a claim for compensation against the police service.

The case centred around officers forced to retire under a ruling which said, any officer below the rank of chief could be made to retire after 30 years in the 'general interest of efficiency'.
