At present the HSE is running a campaign called Asbestos: The Hidden Killer because in spite of the substance being banned from use and strict rules being in place related to its removal and destruction when found, workers are still dying from exposure to this highly dangerous substance. Builders renovating houses are at risk and should take measures to reduce their potential exposure to the deadly substance.
Sadly there is no cure for asbestos-related cancers such as mesothelioma, however early detection and treatment by radiotherapy, chemotherapy and surgery can improve symptoms and prolong life.
