If you have been injured in a fall in a supermarket caused by a spillage which should have cleared up, then you have grounds to make a claim.
Supermarkets are packed with jars, packets, bottles and cartons filled with liquid products, and from time to time breakages and spillages happen creating a hazardous environment for customers.
As soon as spillages happen, supermarkets are required to cordon off the area and clean up as soon as possible.
If you slipped on something that was spilt, not cordoned off and cleaned up you may be in a position to claim compensation for your injury if it can be shown the supermarket was negligent.
What to do after slipping in a supermarket.
If you slipped in a supermarket there are a few things you can do to maximise your chances of a claim success.
Report the incident to the manager / customer service desk. Ask to fill out an accident report form, if there is no procedure in place for this ask for your accident to be recorded in the supermarket’s accident book.
Take witness details. Take the name and contact details for any witnesses who can confirm the accident took place, they can provide independent evidence that could be needed to prove your claim.
Take photos of the area where the accident happened. Most people have a camera on their phone and so the advice is to take photos of the accident scene as this can be used to help at a later date.
At Imperium Law we are dedicated to getting our clients the compensation they deserve.
