Supermarkets are environments prone to slipping accidents, and strict guidelines must be followed to ensure customer safety.

Supermarkets are packed with jars, packets, bottles and cartons filled with liquid products, and from time to time breakages and spillages happen creating a hazardous environment for customers.

As soon as spillages happen, supermarkets are required to cordon off the area and clean up as soon as possible.

What to do after slipping in a supermarket.

If you slipped in a supermarket there are a few things you can do to maximise your chances of a claim success.

  • Report the incident to the manager / customer service desk. Ask to fill out an accident report form, if there is no procedure in place for this ask for your accident to be recorded in the supermarket’s accident book.

  • Take witness details. Take the name and contact details for any witnesses who can confirm the accident took place, they can provide independent evidence that could be needed to prove your claim.

  • Take photos of the area where the accident happened. Most people have a camera on their phone and so the advice is to take photos of the accident scene as this can be used to help at a later date.

Types of injuries sustained.

A claim was made against the supermarket which proved successful, and £30,000 was awarded in compensation which accounted for such factors as her pain, suffering, financial loss and her husband’s loss of earnings.

Making a claim for compensation.
